OB-1 Programmer Operating Instructions R Grieb 4/1/2016 When you power on the new programmer, the LEDs should sweep to the right and back to the left quickly. The programmer always selects patch 1 of bank 1 and will read it. 64 patches can now be stored, in eight banks of eight. Patches are saved in EEPROM, which is non-volatile and does not require any sort of battery back-up. The first three banks are filled with patches when you receive the board. These were programmed for me by a friend who knows the OB-1 well. All 64 patches are stored in the same type of memory, including the first 24, and can be over-written if desired. To read a patch in the current bank, touch one of pads 1-8 and release. Its light should illuminate. Reading a patch will exit manual mode. To change banks, touch 1-8 and hold it until the LED starts flashing, then release. Changing banks does not read any patch. All 8 LEDs will turn off until you read a patch in the new bank. Only controls that have moved since you read a patch are "live". This allows reading a patch, editing one or two settings, and saving it again, either to the same location, or as a new patch. Selecting Manual mode makes all of the controls "live". Just touch the Manual pad to select Manual mode. Its LED should light. The only way to exit Manual mode is to read a patch. To save a patch, first select the destination bank. (This will not read a patch) Now touch the Write pad. The manual LED should flash to indicate that writing has been armed. Now select the patch you want to write to. The Manual LED should stop flashing, and the LED for the patch you have selected should light. To cancel a write operation when the Manual LED is flashing, touch the Manual pad. Two user settings are available: Osc 1 freq quantization and bank flash. These are saved in Flash memory and are kept when the OB-1 is powered off. To make osc 1 coarse freq step in octaves instead of semi-tones, you should first set osc 1 coarse freq to 24 steps from the full CCW position, so that you hear C two octaves above the C of the lowest pot setting when you press a C key. Without moving the control, touch the 2 pad and hold it. At first the LED will flash to indicate bank selection. Continue touching the pad until it starts flashing at a faster rate. This will take about 4 seconds. Now release the pad. To disable quantization, touch 1 and hold until you get the faster flash rate, then release. If you would like a visual indication of the current program bank, touch and hold pad 4 until you get the faster flash rate, then release it. When this is enabled, the LED corresponding to the current bank will flash every 4 seconds or so. If the current bank matches the current program, the LED will blink every 4 seconds. To disable this feature, touch and hold pad 3 until you get the faster flash rate, then release it.
